Jose Garza, from McAllen, Texas, enlisted into the U.S. Army as in Infantryman on October 15, 1996. After 9-11, during 2001-2005, he served in both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom earning him the Combat Infantryman's Badge. On October 31, 2016, Jose honorably retired after 20 years of service.
